Taiwan Semiconductor is investing $12 billion to build a plant in northern Phoenix. The massive plant is near Interstate 17 and Loop 303.
A semiconductor fab, also called a fab lab, is a manufacturing plant in which raw silicon wafers are turned into integrated circuits. Some notable clients include Apple, and Qualcomm.
The plant is already under construction, expected to start production in 2024. According to a city of Phoenix, the first phase is estimated to have an economic impact of $38 billion over 20 years.
President Joe Biden visited the site in December 2022, and in March 2023 Governor Katie Hobbs announced the opening of Arizona’s trade and investment office in Taiwan. The new office serves as a platform to increase economic collaboration between Taipei and Arizona.
Some TSMC employees have moved into newly constructed apartments in a community 10 minutes’ drive from the plant.

For example Mack Real Estate Group LLC plans to build 735 rental units near the plant in North Phoenix and Empire Group recently closed on 40 acres where it plans to build approximately 354 single-family homes for rent.
